Furfural Plant For Proserpine
Report by ABC's Kate O'Toole

25 September 2003: DalinYebo Group announces first success for International Furan Technolgy (IFT) in Australia.  ABC reports:

Furfural plant for Proserpine – Kate O’Toole

We’ve heard a lot about ethanol, now for a different sugar by-product . Proserpine Sugar Mill, north of Mackay, is going to build Australia’s first furfural plant. The Mills Board has approved the plan with construction of a five- thousand tonne plant beginning before the end of the year. Furfural can be used in just about anything .. paint, pharmaceuticals, golf balls and flavourings and is made from the sugar waste product, bagasse. Mill management refuses to publicly release the cost of the project, or its projected returns, something that has local canegrowers cynical about the plan.

Alf Musumeci, General manager of Proserpine Mill
Michael Cantamessa, Chairman, Proserpine Canegrowers
